Empower a Village First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, NE

The Amazon rainforest, a crucial ecosystem for our planet’s health and our survival, is facing significant environmental threats. Minga Peru, an impactful NGO operating in remote Amazon villages, is deeply engaged in efforts to mitigate these threats, focusing on community development and conservation with direct impacts on both the land and the indigenous peoples.

Empower a Village - Transform the World

This fall, we offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the transformative endeavors of Minga Peru. Join us for a week-long journey into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, where you will witness firsthand the resilience of its people and the challenges they face. Your participation not only offers you a transformative travel experience but also supports the ongoing efforts to empower and sustain these remote communities.

 

Trip Details

 

📅 Dates: November 15-21, 2025

💰 Cost: $2,000 per person (all-inclusive), plus round-trip airfare to Lima

🌍 Who’s Going? We’ll be joining others from across the country
 

Our journey begins in Lima, where we’ll meet Eliana Elias, the Executive Director of Minga Peru, and learn about Minga Peru’s work and the Amazon’s rich history. From there, we’ll fly to Iquitos and travel to Nauta, our base of operations for the week.
 

Throughout the trip, we will:

🚤 Take boat trips to different villages

🤝 Meet the women and youth transforming their communities

🛠 Participate in hands-on projects (optional)

🍲 Learn to cook local meals and create traditional crafts

🌱 Engage in reforestation efforts to support climate resilience

In addition to deepening our relationship with Minga Peru and the Amazonian communities, our goals for this trip are:

🌱 To understand youth leadership from the young leader´s perspective in the communities

🌱 To learn how youth leaders are committed to climate resilience efforts in the context of the Amazon, and how they approach living in harmony with the environment

🌱 To formulate our own understanding of the Minga Peru model and how that might inform the work we do in our own community in Lincoln, Nebraska

🌱 To reflect on how our learnings from the trip will be useful in our personal lives

 

After an unforgettable week, we’ll return to Lima. From there, travelers can either fly home or extend their journey to explore more of Peru.
