It’s Not a Bible Study – It’s a Conversation!
Through the New Testament in 8 Weeks
Wednesdays at 6 pm in Hebrews 2:11
October 16 – December 11 (No meeting Nov. 27)
Join us for a unique way of reading the Bible – without chapters, verses, or footnotes, just the text itself, inviting us to wrestle with its mystery and meaning.
Whether you have read the Bible completely through or never picked it up, you will find this to be a refreshing experience. This is a safe place where together we can:
- Talk about how the Bible speaks to us in our own lives,
- Wrestle with what we find difficult,
- Share our doubts,
- Lift up new insights we have about God, and our relationship with God,
- And simply read the story.
We’ll be using Messiah, the Immerse Reading Bible, which lays out the New Testament according to its literary genre and audience, so the order of books won’t look like what you’re used to. It is our hope that this fresh reading will open new insights for you as you deepen your faith and in the process, build relationships with others who are on the same journey.
We’ll read about 12 pages a day for 5 days each week, and then we’ll talk about it. That’s all the preparation you need!
This class is open to EVERYONE! You don’t have to be a member of First Presbyterian Church, or even a Christian. NO knowledge of the Bible is needed! If you are interested in reading the Bible and talking about it with others, this opportunity is for you!
PLEASE LET CARRIE KNOW (email@example.com) by September 23 if you would like to participate, so we can order a copy of Messiah and the reading guide for you and have it available before the first class. (The book is offered to participants at no charge. If you would like to make a donation, we pay $12 for each book. If you prefer a digital copy, you can purchase one at amazon.com, or order a paperback directly at https://www.tyndale.com/p/immerse-messiah/9781496424136)
If you prefer to LISTEN to the Bible, you can listen to the daily readings here: http://immersebible.com/messiah/ (Scroll down until you see the video and audio recordings)
PARKING: If you’ve not had an opportunity to visit First Presbyterian Church, we have two main parking lots: 18th St. Lot (with its entrance on 18th St. between F & G St.) and G St. Lot (with its entrance on G St. between 17th & 18th St.) ONLY the East doors, on the 18th St. lot will be unlocked! So if you park in the G St. lot, just head to the East side of the building to enter.
CLASS LOCATION: Hebrews 2:11 is located on the second floor of the church, in about the middle of the church. When you enter the East door, just before you pass through the doorway into the main hallway (you’ll know what I mean when you see it), there is a door to stairs to your left. Go up one flight, and then head down the hallway and follow the hallway to the left, and you’ll see Hebrews 2:11.
HUNGRY? Think you might be hungry when you get here? We have the F3 (Faith, Fellowship, Food) Potluck every Wednesday at 5:30 in the fellowship hall. (go down the stairs instead of up, to reach our fellowship hall). Come, grab a bite to eat, enjoy some time with some really cool people, and then join us in Hebrews 2:11 for our conversation. If you’re new to our church, no need to bring anything – there’s always plenty of food. If you’ve been here a while and want to contribute to the meal, we never say no! 🙂
