Stephen Ministry

The Stephen Ministry is a confidential, caring lay ministry, where Stephen Ministers are matched one- on-one with a Care Receiver needing short, or long term support. Stephen Ministers are trained by Stephen Leaders with 50 hours of classes which are scheduled periodically. Supervision meetings are twice monthly with continuing education. Contact Pastor Brent Johnston at 477-6037 if you, or someone you know, might benefit from a Stephen Minister.

In June 2002, First Church commissioned fifteen trained Stephen Ministers. These care givers are now ready to be matched with care receivers who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances. This could include those who are terminally ill, have lost a spouse or another family member, are experiencing divorce, are in a job crisis situation, or find themselves in any of a variety of trying circumstances. This distinctively Christian one on one care involves weekly visits, telephone calls, and emotional support.

Stephen Ministers are trained to offer biblical encouragement, thereby helping care receivers to nurture and grow in faith. Strict confidentiality is always maintained.

Stephen Ministry at First Presbyterian Church is compassionate, trustworthy, skilled and full of faith.

If you are at a place in life where you need someone to listen and the hand of Christian love extended to you, please call the church office, (402) 477-6037 and ask to speak to one of the Stephen Ministry Leaders.
