Adult Classes on Sunday Morning @ 9:45 AM

Adult Bible Discovery meets in the Parlor with Gary Hughes as its teacher/discussion leader.  In this class participants are encouraged to share their views, particularly how they read and understand the biblical text.

Forum meets periodically to discuss current events with a guest speaker facilitating the class.  Our next Forum class is scheduled for October 16, 2011, in which Rev. Eric Hoey, Director of New Church Development and Evangelism, will speak of his work for our denomination.

An Adult Class on a topic of interest is led by a member or staff for several weeks that may be based upon a movie, a dvd series, a book, or the bible.  Presently this class is lead by Rev. Robert Jeambey on “How the Bible Came to Be.”

Stephen Ministers

The Stephen Ministry is a confidential, caring lay ministry, where Stephen Ministers are matched one- on-one with a Care Receiver needing short, or long term support. Stephen Ministers are trained by Stephen Leaders with 50 hours of classes which are scheduled periodically. Supervision meetings are twice monthly with continuing education. Contact Pastor Brent Johnston at 477-6037 if you, or someone you know, might benefit from a Stephen Minister.

Betty Tenhulzen, (Chair) Sue Bolz (Leader), Barb Bruning (Leader), Gary Hughes (Leader), Pastor Brent Johnston (Leader), Ruth Stephenson (Leader), Jack Cole, Debbie DeFrain, Jim DeFrain, David Hammar, LeAnn Hammar, Barbara Hanssen, Sherry Knapp, June Pickel, Jody Spalding, Carlene Waldron, Andy White.

In June 2002, First Church commissioned fifteen trained Stephen Ministers. These care givers are now ready to be matched with care receivers who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances. This could include those who are terminally ill, have lost a spouse or another family member, are experiencing divorce, are in a job crisis situation, or find themselves in any of a variety of trying circumstances. This distinctively Christian one on one care involves weekly visits, telephone calls, and emotional support.

Stephen Ministers are trained to offer biblical encouragement, thereby helping care receivers to nurture and grow in faith. Strict confidentiality is always maintained.

Stephen Ministry at First Presbyterian Church is compassionate, trustworthy, skilled and full of faith.

If you are at a place in life where you need someone to listen and the hand of Christian love extended to you, please call the church office, (402) 477-6037 and ask to speak to one of the Stephen Ministry Leaders.
