In 1953, foresighted Church members chartered First Presbyterian Church Foundation as an IRC 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt charitable corporation to solicit, invest, and administer gifts to benefit our church.
The Foundation has since funded significant Church initiatives: Church missions, youth scholarships, capital improvements, i.e. refurbished the Reuter organ and remodeled chancel, elevators, parking lots, and HVAC and lighting project. In total, over $3 million dollars have been given.
Where does my gift go?
Gifts can be general or designated for specific purposes. Consider giving via memorial gifts, wills, trusts, life insurance, IRA’s or outright gifts. Gifts may be applied to: Christian Education, Music, Mission, Building, General Gift, and Permanent Endowment.
Give now or later
You may choose two methods to a make substantial gift for the Church’s long-term benefit: 1. Outright gifts of cash or property provide immediate income tax deductions to a taxpayer who itemizes. Giving long-term appreciated property, such as stock or real estate, permits the donor to avoid realization of the accrued capital gain yet obtain an income tax deduction for the property’s full current value. 2. Deferred gifts can be effected under your Will or by designating the Foundation as beneficiary of your life insurance, profit-sharing, IRA, or 401 (k) plans. Deferred gifts can reduce or even eliminate federal estate or state inheritance tax. Consider gifting substantially appreciated property (free of capital gains tax yet also tax deductible) to a trust which pays income to you and your spouse, or other designated individual beneficiaries, for life, with the remainder to the Foundation. Gifts effective at your death can permit you to give a perpetual tithe that continues to support the mission and ministry of First Church that she might continue to witness to the presence of the Risen Christ in the heart of Lincoln.
Signs of your gifts
Your gifts to the Foundation have enriched the church in significant ways: the exquisite Reredos sculpture and reconditioned stained glass windows, and the floral splendor of the interior courtyard were made possible from gifts given to the Foundation. May the beauty of creation and worship of the Creator continue through the generosity of our members and friends that we might continue to take pride in our beautiful building.
